AARP Colorado is joining forces with other organizations to tackle hunger, starting with reducing the barriers that stop some older people from enrolling in SNAP, formerly called food stamps. The annual Boomer and Beyond Senior Expo 2011, an exposition that educates older adults about services and products available in the Pikes Peak Region, is being held today, June 4th, in Colorado Springs.
AARP is proud to bring NASCAR Champ Jeff Gordon’s Chevrolet Car #24 to Colorado Springs to the Expo. Car #24 is coming to highlight the national “Drive to End Hunger” initiative. (Be sure to click on the name for more information!) Guests can have their picture taken with this famous car for free along with learning how they can help alleviate hunger in their community.
Expo attendees will be asked to contribute canned goods and nonperishable items such as cereal to benefit several food banks and pantries throughout the state.
