A Call to Action

(To LISTEN to Pastor Ron issue his Call to Action, click on the video above!)

A message from Pastor Ron Glusenkamp
: Hello! I am asking you to join me in providing hunger relief. Metro CareRing is challenging people in the Denver area to join Avenues of Hope: 9.10.11.

The goal for faith communities in the metro-Denver area is to raise $120,000 on or before September 10, 2011 (9.10.11) and to collect 120,000 pounds of food. Our specific goal as members and friends of Bethany Lutheran Church is to raise $20,000 and 20,000 pounds of food. I am confident that with your help we will meet the goal(s) and maybe even surpass them!

So, right now I’m asking you to promise to set aside “a dollar per day” beginning on June 1, 2011 and each day until September 10, 2011. Or maybe you want to promise to gather “a pound of food each day” for 100 days. Some people have decided that they’d like to do both! No matter what you decide to do, we ask you to pray so collectively we end hunger in our community.

First, please take about four minutes now and watch the video from Metro CareRing on the side of this blog or by clicking here.

Then, send an email to me at hope91011@gmail.com that you’re going to do “a dollar per day” or a “pound per day” or BOTH! (If you filled out a pledge card with your info already, you’re good to go!) Stay tuned for news and events about where and how to give your “dollar per day” and where to bring your offerings of food.

My good friend Peter Mayer sings a song based on the words of Micah 6:8.

“Ever walk with me Lord

Each night and day a rejoicing

With kindness the harmony, justice the beat

You’ve turned my footsteps to dancing

Oh ever walk with Lord"

Peter reminds us that life is a journey. God is with us on this adventure. We are all on this road together. When you decide to embark on a trek, it’s key to have the right footwear. My shoes were lovingly designed by Christiana Lambert. As you can see next to the pretzel there is a quote from Jesus, “I am the bread of life.” Now here’s the twist, you too can celebrate that message of hope by committing to walk this path along with sisters and brothers with an attitude of gratitude.

Please join this interfaith effort and share the news that on Saturday, September 10, enough food for all hungry people in Denver can be collected. Money to sustain the hungry of Colorado will be gathered. Be a part of it!

Thanks! God’s blessings to you!

Pastor Ron Glusenkamp
